Amoeba Sisters: Ep 7

Microscopes and How to Use a Light Microscope

TEM microscopes are used to see incredible internal structures.
SEM microscopes are used to see the surface very well.

The eye piece and objective lenses both have magnification lenses.
eye piece lens x objective lens = total magnification
For example if the eye piece lens magnifies 10 times and the objective lens magnifies 4 times, the total magnification would be 40 times.

Tips when using a microscope:
1. Microscope slides are generally glass so you have to be careful.
2. Cover slips are super easy to lose.
3. Watch where you are moving the slides on the stage of the microscope, otherwise they might get crushed.
4. If it’s hard to see the lens even when you’re focusing, you might just have to clean it. You can’t use any tissue to clean the lenses, you have to use lens paper.

When you’re finished using your microscope, use this checklist to make sure you didn’t forget any steps.
1. Remove slide
2. Turn light off
3. Lower stage
4. Switch to lowest objective lens
5. Secure power cord and cover

That’s all for the Amoeba Sister Ep 7! Hope you learned something, and have a wonderful day. God bless! <3
